Feral Cat Trap Neuter Release in South Brunswick Township, NJ

Since 2014, I have been helping to reduce the feral cat population in South Brunswick, NJ. Beginning on my own street, I fixed approximately fifty cats and when I reached out to a local charity called North Brunswick Humane Association for help, they directed me to other local areas where unneutered cats were reproducing. At two of these locations, both behind local hotels, there were thirty cats each. At one of the hotels, the feeder was unable to catch a female cat who had had multiple litters, but when I went there, to her shock and amazement, this cat went right in my trap and her breeding days were over. It was at that point that I realized I had a special skill and devotion to making sure that no cat in an area was left unneutered no matter how long it takes. And I still do, even though this is not always achievable easily. Trap Neuter Release (TNR) or Trap Neuter Vaccinate Return (TNVR) is the process0 where feral (wild) or stray cats are humanely trapped to receive medical care. Once a cat is trapped it is transported to a local veterinary clinic in Central NJ where the cat is neutered, vaccinated against Rabies and Distemper, microchipped and ear tipped. This is the best way we have found to humanely reduce the stray and feral cat population. When all the cats are in an area are fixed, the population naturally reduces and neutering also reduces many of the problems that community members have issue with, mainly spraying, yowling at night, and digging in gardens and trash. When I started the South Brunswick Community Cats organization (501c3 Tax Exempt) in 2023, I was at the point of having neutered approximately five hundred plus cats. This has been challenging, and I have had many small and some large failures and mistakes a plenty but I am continuing to observe and learn.I have had the benefit of working with the North Brunswick Humane Association’s Community Cat Program, which is the main reason I have been able to fix so many cats, I couldn’t have done it without them. I am at the point, though, where in order to continue, I need to expand. I can either go big or go home and going home is not an option! Too many cats to neuter and feed.
